A Lawman Christmas A Mckettricks Of Texas Novel eBook Linda Lael Miller

A heart warming story of a 25 year old widow with two little girls. Set in the early 1900's. She had some choices as to what she could do, but none would include being able to keep her children. Keeping her children was top priority for her. Her husband had died in a brothel, in the arms of another woman. He had been the sheriff. Now the replacement sheriff had arrived, and she was told in no uncertain terms by the town council that she would have to vacate the house. It was meant to house the current sheriff.
When Clay met Dara Rose, he was quite taken with her pride, determination and a few other attributes. He volunteered to stay at the jail and said she could remain in the house. But a man who wanted Dora Rose offered to buy the house, and the cash strapped town couldn't afford to turn down the offer. Now she was being evicted again. The sheriff offered the solution, again...marry him and they could live together in the house and she would be able to keep her children. The marriage would be in name only until she felt ready to take the next step. Problem is...she has only known him a couple of days and knows precious little about him. Could she afford to take him at his word and risk it?
I enjoyed this story, not only for the developing romance, and the building of trust and hope that he instilled in Dora Rose, but also the history of life back then. How they stored food, bathroom facilities and the like. It was interesting to read about living life 100 years ago. A good historical romance. Lovable characters.

A Lawman Christmas A Mckettricks Of Texas Novel eBook Linda Lael Miller Reviews

Another joyful story by Linda Lael Miller.
This story shows how love can erase all of the bad things that have happened in a persons life and fill your days with joy and happiness. The two girls are a joy and so cute to have had some hard times in their short lives.
Clay the son of Chloe and Jeb left the vast Mc Kettrich ranch in the Arizona Territory to stand on his own two feet and starts his own ranch in Texas. He meets Dara Rose and her daughters Edrina and Harriett and the story continues without murder or mayhem, just a nice romantic tale like only this author can tell. This story plays in 1914 and it shows us that not many advances have been made. It gives us a fascinating look into our past.
Sweet romances. One historical, one present day and both stand-alone. The first is a light romance. The second one has more depth and some conflict.

Believable storylines and characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking and humorous dialogue.

No desire to re-read these stories. I am always interested in works by this author.
I'm a relatively new Linda Lael Miller fan - having only read one of her other books, in the past year. However - since a couple of my only other, "favorite" authors retired years ago, now - I've had to spend some time acquainting myself with a few new ones! When I found this one, originally - I had been walking through a "Target" store with my husband and was looking for a Christmas/ holiday romance - hoping that I could locate one that would be "cowboy/ old west" themed. This book did not disappoint! This particular volume has two different stories, by Linda in it. Without wasting space going through a synopsis of both, again (since there are already a few other reviews here, which do) - I thought that both stories developed quickly, and were compelling all the way to the end! Contrary to what some believe, while both stories get a bit "steamy" - I thought that the stories were well-written, and that the characters were completely developed and seemed very realistic! Both stories had endings which I thought were quite touching. Overall, I think that this volume is GREAT for anyone who is looking for a couple of good, not overly short holiday romances to warm their heart with - heading into the season!!
OK This review takes a bit to explain. I have read all of these McKettricks novels in paper back form. I've read each 2 or 3 times each for 2 reasons,,1= they're that good,,2= I have dementia. It's a blessing for me when I can't remember the stories and I re-read them. A few years ago I donated all my paper backs to sell at a charity that saves cats & dogs. Well,,now I do remember some of the stories but it's time to read them again so I'm getting them for my . I was reading something in my Bible that brought this book to mind. Recompense. That's all you get,,read the book and remember that word,,you'll see.
So, Clay McKettrick left Arizona for the job as Marshall in a small town in Texas. There he is greeted by the unlikely welcoming committee of s six year old going on forty. He married the former Marshall's widow and falls in love.. Merry Christmas.
This is really a "feel good" story of a lonely town marshal, Clay McKettrick and the widow of the former marshal, Dora Nolan. Winter is approaching, as is Christmas and the town mayor has finally told Dora to vacate the small cabin that is designated for the new marshal.

Clay McKettrick is a quiet man. However, he has that lethal side to him that brooks no arguments when it comes to right and wrong. Dora, a stubborn woman with a lot of pride butts heads with Clay. Her very precocious daughter Edrina takes up with Clay as soon as he disembarks from the train much to Dora's shagrin. The younger daughter is a little shy with the newcomer.

Though Dora is dirt poor, she finds the heart to give part of her meager food stores to an even more unfortunate woman with 3 children who is literally starving after being abandoned by her loser husband. In the meantime, Clay rescues a starving dog that is being abused by a couple of bullies.

Now, you have to read the book to find out more. It is a GREAT book. The story line is laced with belly laughing humor. It is really a story of giving and sharing and love in the old west. The ending? Well, it is truly a tear jerker in some respects, but the kind of tears you don't mind shedding.

I highly recommend "A Lawman's Christmas". Linda Lael Miller does not disappoint with another McKettrick saga. Truly a "feel good" story. You won't be disappointed.
